how to play

how to play four in a row

Four in a row is a free drop game on a 7 by 6 board. Discs fall to the lowest open space. Four in a line, across, down, or diagonal, wins. Play a bot or a friend on the same phone.

  1. Pick easy, normal or hard above the board, or a friend to pass the phone back and forth.
  2. Tap a column to drop your disc. Press and slide to aim first: a ghost disc shows where it will go.
  3. The bot plays the other color. Who starts swaps every game.
  4. Undo takes back your last drop and the bot's answer. A full board with no four is a draw.

Keyboard: Left and right move the ghost disc, Enter, Space or Down drops it, 1 to 7 drop straight into a column, U undoes, and Esc goes back to the menu.

tips

  • The middle column is worth more than the edges.
  • Watch for a disc that would finish two lines at once.
  • If the other side has three, fill that column before you build your own.

faq

How strong is hard?

Strong. It searches many drops ahead and remembers positions it has already worked out, for about a second a move. It never misses a win or a block. Beating it usually means starting first and owning the middle column.

Does easy really miss?

Yes. It usually takes a win and usually blocks yours, but half its other drops are random. Normal looks six drops ahead and sometimes settles for its second choice.

How is it scored?

Wins in this sitting. There is no percent and no daily board.
