how to play honk
Honk is a free parking lot puzzle game. The lot is jammed with cars, vans and buses, and every one of them can only drive straight ahead. A car with a clear road leaves; a car that hits something stops right there and stays. Use those stops to open lanes, get every car out within the moves, and hit par for three stars.
- Each vehicle has an arrow on its roof. That's the only way it can drive.
- Tap a vehicle. If nothing stands between its front bumper and the edge of the lot, it drives away.
- If something is in the way, it drives up to it and stops there. That's a nudge: it can clear the lane behind it, or park it across someone else's.
- If something is right in front of it, it just honks. That wastes a move.
- Every lot has a move limit. Empty it in par for three stars, within two of par for two, inside the limit for one.
Keyboard: Tab moves to the vehicles and the arrow keys hop between them. Enter or Space drives the one you're on. R restarts the level, L opens the level list, and Esc goes back to the menu.
tips
- Drive out everything that can leave first. It never hurts.
- When nothing can leave, look for a car whose tail sits across another car's lane, with room in front of it. Nudge that one.
- Before a nudge, look where the car will stop. If it ends up across a lane that a car needs later, you've locked the lot.
- The yellow note tells you when a nudge has locked the lot. Restart costs nothing.
faq
Can every lot be emptied?
Yes. Every level is solved by a search before it ships, and its par is the fewest moves that empty it.
Does the order matter?
Yes. Cars that hit something stay where they stopped, so a careless nudge can park a car across the only way out. The later levels have several of those traps.
How many levels are there?
Forty. The first four teach the lanes, level five brings the first lot where nothing can leave until you nudge, and the last lots need five or more nudges with one spare move.
What does par mean?
The fewest moves that empty the lot. Hit it for three stars.
