Royal mess is a free rescue puzzle game. The king is stuck in a tower and every room has something coming for him: lava rising, a flood, a dragon warming up, a spiky ceiling coming down, a boulder, a lit fuse, a ghost, a floor falling away. One tray of items has to get him through every room, and each item works once. Pick the right one for each room, in the right order, before time runs out.

  1. Look at the whole tower when the level opens. Every room is shown before the first pick.
  2. Tap an item, or press its number, to throw it into the room the king is in.
  3. The right item saves him and he walks on to the next room. A wrong one goes wrong in its own way, it's used up, and he tries the room again.
  4. Each room has a clock. Run out and it counts as a wrong pick.
  5. Get through with no wrong picks for three stars, one for two, two for one. A third, or a tray that can't save him any more, ends the level.

Keyboard: Press 1 to 6 to throw an item, or Tab to the tray and press Enter. R restarts the level, L opens the level list, and Esc goes back to the menu.

tips

  • Each item does one thing, the same in every room: a frost jar freezes lava, water and fuses, a bucket puts out flames and fuses, a shield stops a dragon's breath, a pillar props a ceiling or stops a boulder, a plank bridges a gap or sends a boulder over his head, a lantern scares a ghost, a rubber ring floats.
  • Balloons only help if there is a trapdoor overhead, and they pop on spikes.
  • Some items work in two rooms. Save those for the room where nothing else works.
  • When a level opens, plan the whole tower before the clock starts on the first room.

faq

Does anyone get hurt?

No. The worst that happens is a soggy robe, a sooty face or a king flat as a pancake for a second. He's fine by the next try.

How many levels are there?

Twenty-four. The first six teach one rule each, then come towers of two, three and four rooms where the obvious first pick can leave you stuck later.

Is there always a way through?

Yes. Every tower is checked: at least one way to hand out the tray saves him in every room, and on the last levels only a few of hundreds do.

How long do I get?

Thirteen seconds a room on the first level, a little less on each one after, never under seven. The clock stops while an item is in the air.
