how to play afterimage
Afterimage is a free spatial memory game. A shape appears on a grid for a moment. Then you put it back: same spot, same size, same spin. Five shapes per game, each scored from 0 to 100% by how much your shape overlaps the original, and a daily set that everyone gets.
- Memorize the shape while the countdown runs: where it sits, how big it is and which way it points.
- The shape comes back in the middle, default size and straight.
- Drag it into place. Drag the dot to size and spin it in one move. On a phone you can also pinch and twist with two fingers; on a laptop the mouse wheel sizes it.
- Lock it in. The original appears as a dashed outline over yours, with what was off in plain words.
- It gets harder: less time to look each round (3 seconds down to 1.5), and the shapes go from even ones to lopsided ones where every degree counts.
Keyboard: Arrow keys move, plus and minus resize, [ and ] rotate (Shift for bigger steps), Enter locks in and moves on, Esc goes back to the menu.
tips
- Anchor the shape to the grid: the strong lines are every five squares. Count from the nearest one.
- Spin is the easiest thing to forget on lopsided shapes. Note where the longest point faces.
- Size first, then spin, then position. Sizing moves where the edges land.
faq
How is afterimage scored?
By overlap: the area your shape shares with the original, divided by the area both cover. A perfect fit scores 100%; being a few grid squares off on a mid-size shape scores around 50%.
Is there a daily afterimage?
Yes. Everyone gets the same five shapes each day, with one attempt, a streak and a spoiler-free share.
Can I play with a keyboard?
Yes. Focus the grid, then use the arrow keys to move, plus and minus to resize, and the bracket keys to rotate. Hold Shift for bigger steps.
