how to play doubling
Doubling is a free sliding number puzzle. Slide every tile on a 4 by 4 board at once. When two tiles with the same number touch, they merge into one with double the value. Keep merging until the board is full and nothing can move.
- Swipe in any direction (or use the arrow keys) to slide every tile as far as it goes.
- Two matching tiles that collide merge into their sum: 2 and 2 make 4, 4 and 4 make 8.
- After every move a new 2 or 4 appears in an empty square.
- Each merge adds its value to your points. The game ends when no move is possible.
- You get three undos a game. When the board locks up, you can spend one there instead of ending.
Keyboard: Arrow keys or W, A, S and D slide the tiles, U undoes, and Esc goes back to the menu.
tips
- Pick a corner and keep your biggest tile there.
- Use mostly two or three directions. The fourth one breaks up your corner.
- Build a chain of descending values along one edge, so merges cascade into the corner.
faq
Is reaching 2048 the end?
No. The game stops for a moment to cheer, then you keep going as long as the board lets you.
Can I undo?
Three times a game. Unlimited undo would make it too easy. An undo brings back the same new tile if you swipe the same way again, so it can't be used to fish for a better one.
How is it scored?
Every merge adds the value of the new tile. Reaching 2048 usually takes around 20,000 points.
