how to play groupthink
Groupthink is a free daily word puzzle. Sixteen words hide four groups of four. Find what each group has in common. Every puzzle has red herrings, words that look like they fit two groups. Four mistakes and the puzzle is over.
- Tap four words you think belong together, then tap submit.
- A correct group locks in at the top with its name. Shuffle moves the words around, deselect clears your picks.
- If three of your four are right, we'll tell you you're one away.
- Find all four groups before you run out of mistakes. The groups go from easy (green) to tricky (red), and the red group is always wordplay: hidden words, sound-alikes, anagrams, or words that go before or after another word.
Keyboard: Tab moves between words, Enter or Space selects one, and Esc goes back to the menu.
tips
- Look for the trickiest group first. Wordplay groups like hidden words or words before ___ball are usually the red ones.
- If a word fits two groups, solve the other group first and see what's left.
- Shuffle when you're stuck. A new layout breaks false patterns.
faq
Who writes the puzzles?
We do. There's a full year of daily puzzles. Every puzzle has red herrings, words that fit more than one group, and each one is checked by a script that proves the sixteen words split into four groups in exactly one way.
Do the puzzles get harder?
Through the week, yes. Monday's puzzle is the gentlest and Sunday's is the hardest, with more red herrings and trickier wordplay.
Is there a new puzzle every day?
Yes, at midnight in your time zone. Solo mode lets you play earlier puzzles.
How does sharing work?
Your share shows each guess as a row of colored squares, so friends see how you did without spoilers. Your results also list all four groups, so you can see what you missed.
