how to play journeyman
Journeyman is a free daily football game. You get a player's senior career as a table of years, clubs and appearances, one line at a time, and you name the player.
- The first line of the table is open: the years, the club, and appearances with goals in brackets. Loans are marked.
- The other lines are hidden but keep their shape: one bar per word of the club name, sized by its letters, and the years written as ####-####.
- You get one guess per line. A wrong guess, or a skip, opens the next line. The national team sits at the bottom and opens last.
- After a wrong guess, every open line your guess also played on gets his name ticked, so a miss still tells you something.
- Daily is the same player for everyone. Freeplay has easy, normal and hard.
Keyboard: Type on your keyboard, arrow keys move between suggestions, Enter guesses, Backspace deletes, and Esc goes back to the menu. Skip is a button.
tips
- Count the bars. A one word club with five letters is a short list.
- Use the ticks. A guess who shares two clubs is from the right corner of the map.
- Skip when the open lines could fit dozens of players. Guesses and skips cost the same, so spend them when you have a name.
- Years that end in a dash mean the player is still there.
faq
Is there a new player every day?
Yes. Everyone gets the same one that day, and the daily list does not repeat a player within a year. Freeplay will not deal one of the next month of dailies.
Who can be the answer?
A well known player with four or more clubs, a year on every spell and appearances on most of them. Easy picks from the best known 150, normal from 500 and hard from the next 1,350. You can guess anyone in the pool.
Why do some careers have fewer lines?
Two spells in a row at one club are one line. Very long careers keep their first and last clubs and lose the shortest spells in between, so a table never has more than ten lines.
How is it scored?
Guesses used out of the lines in the table, like 3/8. The rating is how much of the career you needed, so the third line of a ten line career beats the third line of four. The share is one square per guess, with no names.
Where do the players come from?
