how to play mystery signing

Mystery signing is a free daily football game. You have eight guesses to name today's player, someone at a club in one of the five biggest leagues in Europe. Every guess turns into a card of clues: nation, league, club, position, age and shirt number.

  1. Type a player and pick them from the list. Anyone in the pool counts, retired or not, and small typos are fine.
  2. Green means that clue matches. Amber means it is close: the same continent, an age within two years, or a shirt number within two.
  3. An arrow on age or shirt number points toward the answer.
  4. The strip above the cards keeps what you have proved so far: every green, and the range the arrows have fenced in.
  5. Eight guesses. Miss them all and the name comes up.

Keyboard: Type on your keyboard, arrow keys move between suggestions, Enter guesses, Backspace deletes, and Esc goes back to the menu.

tips

  • A first guess who is still playing in the big five tells you a nation, a league, a club and a shirt number at once.
  • Amber on the nation means the right continent, not the right country.
  • Shirt numbers are for the current club, so a striker who wears 9 and a keeper who wears 1 split the field fast.
  • Easy draws from the best known names, hard from the squad players below them. The daily is always normal.

faq

Is there a new player every day?

Yes. Everyone gets the same one that day. Freeplay deals someone else, and it will not be one of the next month of dailies.

Who can be the answer?

A current player at a club in one of the five biggest leagues in Europe with a known shirt number: the best known 360 on normal, 120 on easy, and the next 900 down on hard. You can guess anyone in the pool of over 20,000 players.

How is it scored?

By guesses used, from one to eight. Fewer is better. The share is one row of colored squares per guess, with no names.

Where do the players come from?

Player facts, clubs and shirt numbers come from Wikidata (CC0), rebuilt with a script that checks famous careers before it ships. Mystery signing is not affiliated with any league, club or player.
